GEM PRECARE Supports Axzon Battery-Free Wireless Sensors

GEM PRECARE brings Battery-Free Wireless Data Acquisition to the Manufacturing Floor
Campbell, CA, January 6, 2020 – GEM, leading Industry 4.0 IIoT predictive analytics solution provider for infrastructure optimization, named by Forbes in the top 25 IoT startups to watch, announced today support of Axzon’s battery-free sensors in the innovative and versatile GEM PRECARE IIoT platform solution for Industry 4.0 smart manufacturing.

The GEM PRECARE platform offers manufacturers the ability to significantly improve their financial performance by providing them with actionable infrastructure analytics from their manufacturing lines. The platform easily connects to legacy and new factory floor machinery and accesses critical operational data in real-time, enabling capital and operational savings, as well as identification of additional revenue sources. GEM PRECARE combines powerful, best-in-manufacturing edge processing, analytics and predictive maintenance capabilities with insightful OEE KPIs and versatile and user-friendly dashboards that provide customers with normalized representations of all their machinery.

The acquisition of factory floor data not only requires sensing of different physical parameters, but it also requires that sensor data can be accessed even if it is not feasible or practical to run cables. Whereas in such situations the problem can be solved via wireless connectivity, battery operation or plugging into an AC wall outlet not practical or desirable.

Axzon’s family of temperature and moisture sensors overcome both obstacles since they operate battery-free over a wireless link. Based on UHF RFID, they harvest their power from the electromagnetic RF field of the reading device. These sensors can be attached to virtually any surface, making them suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, including manufacturing, processing and storage. By integrating support for Axzon’s battery-free and wireless sensors, the GEM PRECARE IIoT platform is able to provide manufacturers with an even wider range of options next to wireline data acquisition from the factory floor.

Adding battery-free, wireless data acquisition capabilities to our GEM PRECARE IIoT platform we are not only able to handle factory floor data from machinery and the ambient environment, but also from the machine operators, giving us the ability to create far more comprehensive digital twins and further enhance our infrastructure analytics”, said Gal Garniek, CEO of GEM. “We are pleased to partner with Axzon to bring practical and innovative Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing solutions to our customer base.”

As part of our long-standing vision of ‘connecting the unconnected’, we continue to deliver value to our customers in industrial IoT markets with our battery-free, wireless sensors”, said Shahriar Rokhsaz, Ph.D, CEO of Axzon. “We are excited to partner with GEM, being able to help provide end-to-end Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing solutions to our joint customer base.”

GEM enables data connectivity between factory floor and GEM PRECARE Cloud via GEM PRECARE Edge. The latter is responsible for converting any machine into digital twins or cyber physical systems, collect machine, operator and ambient data through sensors for edge and cloud processing. GEM PRECARE Edge agents add sensors where they are lacking or access to existing sensors is not possible, access sensor data from PLCs where accessible and access machine and manufacturing data from data stores.
